Content Upload Policy

Polygloat — Last updated: August 2026

1. Who This Applies To

This policy applies to everyone who uploads content to Polygloat. By uploading your first video you confirm that you have read and agree to this policy.

2. The Purpose of Content on Polygloat

Polygloat is built around comprehensible input — a language learning method in which learners acquire vocabulary naturally by watching content they can mostly understand in their target language. The app analyses every word in every video and uses spaced repetition to recommend videos to learners at the right moment in their learning journey.

For this to work, uploaded content must meet clear quality standards. Please read this policy carefully before uploading.

3. Content Requirements

Language

  • Each video must be spoken entirely in one target language. Switching between languages within a single video is not permitted and will result in removal.
  • The target language must be clearly identifiable. Do not upload videos where the spoken language is ambiguous.

Format

  • Videos should be suitable for language learners. Speak clearly and at a measured pace, especially for content aimed at beginner or intermediate levels.
  • Videos must contain substantial spoken speech in the target language. Content that consists primarily of music, dancing, visual content, or background noise without meaningful spoken dialogue will be removed. We recommend at least half of your video's duration contains active speech.
  • You do not need to label your content's difficulty. Polygloat automatically determines each video's vocabulary level from the words that are actually spoken in it.

Originality

  • You must own or have the necessary rights to all content you upload, including the video, audio, music, and any other material appearing in the video.
  • Do not upload clips from TV shows, films, or other copyrighted material that you do not have permission to use.
  • Do not upload content generated entirely by AI without meaningful original contribution.

Prohibited content

You may not upload content that:

  • Contains nudity, sexual content, or graphic violence
  • Promotes hatred, discrimination, or harm toward any group of people
  • Harasses, threatens, or targets specific individuals
  • Is illegal under Dutch or EU law
  • Promotes products or services (no advertising)
  • Is intended to mislead or deceive learners

4. License You Grant to Polygloat

By uploading a video you grant Polygloat a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, irrevocable, sublicensable license to:

  • Store and host your video
  • Display your video to learners within the app
  • Automatically transcribe your video using speech recognition technology
  • Generate translations of the transcript into other languages
  • Analyse the vocabulary in your video to power personalised recommendations

You retain full ownership of your content. This license exists solely to operate the Polygloat service and does not grant Polygloat the right to use your content for advertising or to sell it to third parties.

The irrevocable nature of this license means that transcriptions, vocabulary analysis, and anonymised learning data derived from your videos will be retained even if you later delete your account, as described in section 10.

5. Analytics

Polygloat provides creators with analytics about how learners interact with their content, including view counts, completion rates, and vocabulary acquisition data. This data is anonymised and does not identify individual learners.

6. Moderation

Polygloat reviews uploaded content to ensure it meets these standards. We reserve the right to remove any video that violates this policy, without notice and without obligation to provide a reason.

If you believe your content was removed in error, contact us at legal@polygloat.com.

7. Repeated Violations

Repeated violations of this policy may result in your account being suspended or terminated.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. If we make material changes we will ask you to review and accept the updated version before your next upload.

10. Account Deletion and Your Videos

When you delete your Polygloat account you choose what happens to your uploaded videos:

  • Delete my videos (the default) — your videos and all associated files are permanently deleted within 30 days.
  • Keep my videos anonymously — your videos stay available to learners, displayed under "Anonymous Creator." Every link between the videos and your identity is removed from our systems: no one, including Polygloat, can look up which videos were yours.

If you keep your videos: the removal code. When you choose to keep your videos, we show you a one-time removal code — exactly once, at the moment of deletion. Save it somewhere safe. Because we keep no link between you and the videos, this code is the only self-service way to remove them later: using it permanently removes all the videos it covers within 30 days. The code works once, and we cannot recover or resend it.

If you lose the code, you can still request removal by contacting legal@polygloat.com:

  • If you appear in a video (your face or voice), you can always require its removal — the video itself is your personal data regardless of our records.
  • Otherwise, identify the videos and give us a reasonable indication that you uploaded them (for example, the original files), and we will remove them.

Regardless of which option you choose, the transcriptions and vocabulary analysis derived from your videos are always retained in anonymised form to preserve the learning progress of users who have already studied from your content.
